HARDSHIP GRANT APPLICATIONS

Before you begin:

  • The Hardship Grant relates to situations where unexpected medical events prevent an Employee, or an income-earning dependant, from earning their usual income and incurring financial hardship as a result.

  • The Hardship Grant does not cover private treatment or general medical expenses and should not be considered to be a replacement for medical insurance.

  • All sources of income available to applicants must have been exhausted before submitting an application for a Hardship Grant including leave entitlements.

  • A letter/medical report from a doctor/medical specialist explaining the medical situation that has occurred, and the treatment and likely recovery period, is required to be included with the Hardship Grant application.

  • A copy of the applicant’s most recent payslip, relating to usual hours of work and usual pay, is required to be included with the Hardship Grant application.

  • Ideally, applicant’s are expected to have approached Work and Income NZ (WINZ) to explore the possibility of any benefits to which they may be entitled. The response from WINZ notifying the applicant of the outcome of that approach is required to be included with the Hardship Grant application.
